What is the Astonishing Oversight of the Pro-Abortion Movement?

Phil Mitchell • Dec 06, 2023

They are ignoring something of greatest imortance

The pro-abortion movement was ecstatic on the night of November 7. Ohio voters had approved a constitutional amendment that ensures access to abortion…the latest victory for abortion rights supporters since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade last year.

Ohio became the seventh state where voters decided to protect abortion access since the Roe v. Wade decision.

“The future is bright, and tonight we can celebrate this win for bodily autonomy and reproductive rights,” said the co-chair of Ohioans United for Reproductive Rights before a jubilant crowd of supporters.

Democrats have made clear they plan to make the issue central in races for the presidency and down the ballot next year. Amid a sluggish economy, they think abortion might be just the ticket to winning the election.

A majority of American voters favor abortion in some form and they have for my entire adult life. I remember in the late 80s, Colorado—which was a red state then—had a ban on partial birth abortion on the ballot. It lost. I asked one of my students—a conservative—why she voted against the ban. She said she wanted to protect the right to an abortion as a backup in case birth control failed.

America has been sufficiently paganized to where a majority favor abortion. It is an indication of the decline in Christian culture. Americans are not extreme pro-abortionists. A majority oppose late term abortions. So, we have paganism light on the abortion issue.

But there is an astonishing oversight on the part of the pro-abortion forces. Don’t they know they are exterminating their own future voters?

Nearly twenty years ago, James Taranto, himself pro-choice, wrote a fascinating analysis in the Wall Street Journal. I have linked the article below but let me summarize the argument. People who get abortions tend to be pro-choice. Duh. And children tend to vote like their parents. Parental influence is significant in adult voting patterns. So, the child being aborted, had she been allowed to live, would most likely have grown up to be a pro-abortion voter.  But alas, she won’t be growing up. Thirty years from now voters will tend to have pro-life parents. Again, duh. America had approximately 900,000 abortions last year. That’s a lot of potential voters who will never see the light of day. Taranto estimated that the right to abortion cost the Democrats the 2000 election and quite possibly the 2004 election. And pro-abortion parties will have their voter totals diminished in future years. As Taranto points out, aborted babies do not grow up to have children or grandchildren.

Abortion is an unspeakable tragedy. It reveals the paganism and immorality of America. But God is at work. He will use the worst tragedies for His purposes. One research firm said recently, that since Roe v. Wade was declared unconstitutional, 27,000 babies have been born that otherwise would not have been born. For this we can be very thankful.

Christians have always been pro-life. In every culture and in every age. Let’s continue to fight the good fight and bring honor to our Lord. May He bless you this day in a mighty way.
