Did the Early Christians Practice Socialism?

Many young Christians have said to me, “The early Christians practiced socialism.” They are referring to Acts 2:44-45 which reads: And all who believed were together and had all things in common. ⁴⁵ And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need.

They interpret those verses as teaching socialism in the early church. Those verses are not teaching socialism. In fact, they teach the exact opposite of socialism. In fact, socialism is the most anti-Christian ideology in history.

In this passage the early Christians were generously sharing their personal wealth with others, but they did so of their own free will. They were not forced to do so. They chose to do so. Socialism is the polar opposite. You don’t share willingly. You are coerced by the state into giving up what is yours. Coercion is the opposite of the kind of giving God wants.

In recent elections a number of socialists—people aligned with the Democratic Socialist of America(DSA)—won elections in very strongly Democratic districts. And they are as hostile to the Christian faith as one can be.

To implement its agenda socialists have always relied on lying. God is a God of truth. Satan is the father of lies. It’s not complicated here to see that socialism is not Christian and is in fact radically anti-Christian. An example is the latest lie from socialist Bernie Sanders who argues that Artificial Intelligence technology was built illegally and should be confiscated by the state. James Freeman calls this one of Bernie’s many whoppers: Bernie says A small number of oligarchs have essentially stolen the creative work of hundreds of millions of people – writers, artists, musicians, journalists, teachers, scientists, and ordinary citizens – without permission, acknowledgment, or compensation in order to control the majority of economic value created by artificial intelligence…”

Freeman says: “What a despicable deception Mr. Sanders has employed to seize the work of others. In fact he’s the one trying to steal assets from their rightful owners.”

There is another way socialist are not Christian, even anti-Christian.

Socialists are antisemitic to the core. They hate Jews and they hate Israel. They applaud the murder of 1200 innocent Israelis in the October 7, 2023, sneak attack by Hamas. And socialists support the murderous gangsters that run Palestine and who’s only defining political doctrine is the annihilation of Israel. “Finish the Holocaust” they say. In what world can this kind of hatred by squared with Christianity?

 

The Socialists hate Israel and love Cuba. The atheistic, communist government of Cuba that hates God and puts Christians in prison. Or kills them outright. Any group that loves Cuba and hates Israel is not Christian in any sense of the word. They are part of anti-Christ.

 

There’s ample evidence of the DSA’ hostility to Christian civilization. Earlier this month, its leadership issued an updated platform that calls for abolishing the U.S. Senate, defunding the Pentagon, offering universal amnesty to illegal immigrants, transferring the ownership of major corporations to the public, and replacing “the President and Supreme Court with an executive and judiciary chosen by and subordinate to Congress.” It also includes a demand that police budgets be cut “annually to zero.” “Create a four-day 32-hour work week with no loss in pay,” plus “a universal basic income,” as well as a “federal jobs guarantee.” Free government childcare, free pre-K, and free college. Medicare for All, “including abortion.” 

The United States was built on the foundation of Christian culture and biblical truths. The socialists mean to tear all that down. They hate America and they hate the society Christian culture built. How is that Christian?

Socialism at its heart is not only anti-Christian. Its adherents see it as a substitute for Christianity. Once again: When you deny the God of the Bible you do not believe nothing. You then believe anything. What better example is there of people believing in a false cult than socialism?

Many national commentators are wrestling with the rise of socialism. Why is this happening? You do not have to look far for the answer. For sixty years the academic community has taught hatred for America and a love of the false gods of socialism and communism. The young socialists are merely their offspring.

Why are the young socialists so motivated? Religion does that to you. And they will continue to be highly motivated until the lies and contradictions of their false religion come crashing down on their heads.



Socialists governments have been the greatest disaster for human beings in all of history. Why? They begin by hating God. And they continue by denying basic Christian doctrines. In time they face God’s judgment and are driven from the earth. In the meantime, do not be deceived by their false promises.
