A tribute to traditional motherhood.
Hannah Harper and String Cheese
· Saved by String Cheese: The Unexpected Glory of Young Motherhood
We just heard the anthem of the traditional housewife. A young mother from Missouri won this year’s American Idol. Hannah Harper, a beautiful country gospel singer, and a homeschooler with three young boys, auditioned with a song she wrote about being a young mother: String Cheese. It’s a simple story about being exhausted and at the end of your rope, about post-partum blues, and suddenly realizing the real purpose of your life when your three year old asks you to open his “string cheese.” Personally, I think the best line in the song is, after talking about being a worn out mom she thanks her children:
“I never knew this is what my twenty's would look like But they saved me before I had the chance to waste my life.”
Imitating Jesus Christ by pouring your life into others is the best possible use of your existence. Feeding a little boy when you are at the end of your tether is what brings joy and purpose to an other-wise wasted existence. Hannah intended to celebrate young mothers everywhere. And boy did she ever. Click on the link to hear her story or go to YouTube and watch her. You’ll be glad you did.
