Socialism is becoming popular with many young Americans; too bad because it’s a colossal lie. Socialism is built on promises it cannot keep, claims it cannot verify, ideals that never become reality. It is built on a false view of human nature. And it all stems from its largest and worst belief—the denial of the existence of Almighty God.
Socialism is wrong about everything. Let’s start with Marx’s assumption—humanities’ big problem is inequality, and by this he means economic inequality. Some people have larger incomes than other people and that’s what’s wrong with the human race. The Bible warns the rich about trusting their riches and not God but the poor and the rich have the same problem. Their sin has separated them from their Creator and until they are reunited with him they will have no peace. That’s why Jesus Christ came to earth—to reconcile man with God by dealing with the sin problem. So Marx is wrong at the start.
So socialism lies about the basic human problem. It removes God from people’s thinking—or at least tries—and replaces it with? Government. The state becomes the god of the new religion.
Socialism lies about one of the seven deadly sins. Envy is not a sin—it’s a virtue. And we ought to resent people who have more money than us. We should go to war with them and if necessary destroy them. Which leads to the false doctrine that drives socialism—the driving force of history is class conflict. Violence between those who have more and those who have less. And the Marxists/socialists/communists sanctify this violence as necessary to right the injustices of the world.
Socialism lies about human nature. It says we are basically good and that government can make everything right. However, people may be good but they are also stupid. They cannot make choices for themselves. They have to be told what to do by the elite—a group of Marxists in the commanding heights of society. These all-knowing individuals will tell the innocent but stupid masses how to think, how to act, what to believe. It’s why socialism is totalitarian and hostile to free speech. The masses cannot be allowed to think for themselves nor can they be allowed to speak out loud. Their wrong ideas might influence other innocent sheep. Which is why socialism hates Christianity above all else. The Christian faith is the supreme enemy of the socialist state. It is a power outside the state. The followers of Christ do not worship government. We worship Christ.
Why are people turning to socialism? Remember, this is a youth movement and youth have no memory of the horrors of the totalitarian states built by socialism. They are oblivious to the nightmare states that are currently socialist—North Korea and Cuba being prominent. So the flirtation with socialism is based on ignorance and immaturity. You can read endless articles on the internet written by people who escaped socialist regimes. But their warnings go unheeded. And we are experiencing a total failure of education. Young men and women are never told the truth about socialism by their college professors. College teachers are all in on socialism proving themselves to be educated fools. I had socialist professors at the University of Wyoming in 1965. So the socialist charade has been infiltrating higher ed for a long time.
But the strongest reason for the rise of socialism is the decline of the Christian worldview. This has been brought on by the mainline denominations, many Roman Catholics, and their brethren in the universities. Once the truth of Christianity is abandoned it is replaced by lies like socialism, which, while a colossal falsehood, gives its adherents religious meaning. I have repeatedly called socialism a government-funded cult and that is exactly what it is.
The Apostle Paul predicted all this in Romans 1. He said, although people knew that God existed they refused to worship or thank Him. Instead they decided they could invent their own religions. What was the end result?
Paul gave a perfect description in Romans 1:25: “They exchanged the truth of God for a lie.”
“Thinking themselves to be wise they became fools instead.”

Socialism isn’t just bad economics; it’s a false religion
Every religion answers the same basic questions: What is wrong with the world? Who or what will save us? Where is history headed? Socialism, in its Marxist form especially, offers answers for all three.
The nations that have tried to build Marx’s classless society have produced some of the worst poverty and the most brutal governments in modern history
A just-released CNBC Generation Labpollindicates that almost half of eighteen- to thirty-four-year-olds have a favorable or very favorable view of democratic socialism.
